Pro Quick Tips

During periods of environmental stress due to high temperatures or a lack of rainfall, raise the mowing height ½ to 1 inch until the stress is eliminated.

Summer higher temps – mow a little higher than usual. Winter lower temps before Spring green up – mow a little shorter than usual.

Avoid frequent, short watering sessions. Deep, infrequent watering in the early mornings (around sunrise) is best & promotes deeper roots (deeper than most weed roots!). The goal is 1″ of water per week during the growing season (irrigation & rainfall).

Don’t water your grass during the hottest part of the day or late at night when it won’t have time to dry during the day.

Don’t over water your grass. Over watering can be just as damaging, if not more, than under watering!

Don’t overfertilize your grass, especially your Centipede Grass!

Never cut more than 1/3 of the grass blade at any one time in a single mowing.

Standing water, soggy soil & leaf pile up on your turf will promote an environment for lawn disease, weeds & insects.

Change the pattern in which you mow every time or every other time.

Compost is not a fertilizer. It feeds the soil. Fertilizer feeds the plants.

Most yards need to be aerated at least once per year (during the growing season).

Before creating new plant beds, remember your lawn mower & if it can easily maneuver in the area.
